Ode to Funny T-Shirts

Whoever invented the shirt definitely deserves an award. After all, this very versatile piece of clothing has probably saved many from the frustration that ultimately results from that most dreaded situation of “having nothing to wear.” Too many times, we have opened our cabinets, closets, wardrobes or wherever you keep your clothes these days, only to stare at the rows or columns of colorful clothing and think that nothing, absolutely nothing, fits the occasion or, most often than not, our mood. Before we can sink into depression, however, we suddenly spy that favorite piece of clothing, our go-to-shirt if you will, and we heave a sigh of relief. Yes, we have something to wear after all. No need to whip out that shiny plastic card and swipe!

There is something endearingly comfortable about a shirt, which is why it has become a fashion staple for so many people, young and old alike. Despite the ever changing trends in fashion, shirts continue to dominate fashion sales and have remained immune to the fickle mindedness of the consumers. Not only are shirts easy to wear, shirts can be dressed up or down, depending on the situation. Pair a shirt with basic jeans and a pair of chucks and you have got the casual/sporty look down. If that’s not your thing, you can spruce it up with some vintage jewelry, lace and wedge sandals and you’re ready for that Sunday brunch. If you want to make a statement, statement or funnyshirts are also available.

On that note, funny t-shirts have indeed been making waves lately in the fashion industry. Shirts with funny lines, pictures or anecdotes are becoming popular, especially among the younger generation. Spoofs of famous lines from movies and televisions or commercials are especially rampant. These kinds of shirts are actually great conversation starters and many a friendships have been formed because of the jokes printed on these funny shirts. It’s like the shirt itself is already a walking icebreaker. You can even go the extra mile and wear these to a first date! It would be a great diversion from awkward silences (provided, of course, you and your date share the same sense of humor – but that’s another story, altogether).

Shirts have definitely come a long way from since when they were first manufactured. Thanks to designers and other fashion-forward people, shirts have become much more than your basic, well, t-shirt. It now sports many variations, styles and designs making it a must-have for every wardrobe.
